Required dryer rated capacity

Required_rated_SCFM = Compressor_SCFM ÷ (C_inlet × C_ambient × C_pressure) × (1 + margin/100)

Manufacturers rate dryers at a reference inlet temperature, ambient, and pressure. When your site is harsher (hot inlet, hot ambient, lower pressure), the combined factor drops below 1.0 and you need a larger nameplate rating for the same compressor flow.

ISO 8573-1 water class vs PDP

Class 4 ≤ +3°C · Class 3 ≤ −20°C · Class 2 ≤ −40°C · Class 1 ≤ −70°C (pressure dew point)

Refrigerated dryers typically target Class 4–6. Desiccant dryers target Class 1–3. This page maps PDP to water class only—particles and oil are separate ISO digits.

Assumptions and Limitations

Correction factors are typical planning values, not a single OEM catalog. Steady flow assumed; intermittent peaks may need extra margin. Desiccant regeneration often uses 10–15% of process air. Verify aftercooler performance, condensate drains, and filter ΔP with the equipment supplier. Not a code-final design.
